This is a joint programme organised by young people from Dubrovnik and SEE, in cooperation with experienced persons from around the world. This gathering will be an opportunity to learn from each other of new ideas and practical models of sustainable development.  Experienced persons and youth blend experience and knowledge, and support each other with inspiration, energy and enthusiasm.
Join us and bring your wisdom and experience, or questions and queries in the field of economy, education, environment and the personal-social style of life.  You are welcome to attend the entire programme or parts of the programme.  For you as NGO workers or students we would especially recommend that you participate in the  'Leadership Intensive' seminar that follows the main programme from Aug. 31 to Sep. 2 in Villa Gradac.  For teachers we would recommend that you participate in the seminar  'Education Intensive'  held during the same time.

The 'New Wave - Vision of the Youth' programme is endorsed by the City of Dubrovnik and is under the patronage of H.E. Stjepan Mesic, President of the Republic of Croatia and the Ministries of Agriculture, Culture, Economy, Education, Environment, Maritime Transport and Communication, and Tourism.

Conference on Academic and Student Exchange in Europe

OBJECTIVES of the conference
' To enhance cooperation of the SE Europe with the European Union and with partners internationally;
' To provide opportunity for the academic staff, university administrations, professionals internationally in higher education, and students to meet, exchange information about, and engage in each others' academic and scientific projects;
' To consider possibilities and interests for international student and professor exchange;
' To consider possibilities for standardization of university curricula within specific disciplines;
' To consider existing legislature, and various local, regional, European and international initiatives devised to promote international academic exchange and cooperation;
' To share views and experiences with regard to academic and scientific development and development strategies, modern trends in science and higher education, and opportunities and paths to overcome obstacles in international cooperation and exchange;
' To build bridges for progress, and continuous and enhanced academic cooperation in Europe.

TOLERANCE AND INTOLERANCE ON THE TRIPLEX CONFINIUM.
RELIGIONS, CULTURES, SOCIETIES, POLITICAL STRUCTURES OF THE "OTHER" IN THE EASTERN ADRIATIC (XV-XIX CENTURIES)
The Fourth International Conference of the Research Project "Triplex Confinium"
Padua, March 25-26, 2004
Application deadline: May 31st, 2003.
The conference will discuss topics in the history of tolerance and intolerance on the triple border (the Triplex Confinium) between the Habsburg Monarchy, Venetian Republic and the Ottoman Empire with an emphasis on interdisciplinary and comparative approaches and methods. As far as interdisciplinary aspects are concerned, preference will be given to applications bringing together religious-historical and historical-anthropological approaches as well as papers based on new archival, library and fieldwork research. The conference is open to researchers as well as postgraduate students and doctoral candidates in history, the social sciences and humanities. In addition to the title of the paper, applicants are expected to submit a 250-word abstract and a short curriculum vitae. The working languages of the conference will be English and Italian.
 Papers may include the following topics and areas of study:
- the historiography of tolerance and intolerance in the early modern Venetian Republic, Ottoman Empire and Habsburg Monarchy: essential problems and approaches;
- legislation and religious cultures: ecclesiastic and state interests and practices, legal traditions and customary law, the legal status of the dominant, tolerated and persecuted religious communities;
- tolerance and intolerance in everyday life: topics in micro-history, family history, social and cultural history (i.e., experiences of different classes and strata, literate and illiterate, urban and rural communities);
- tolerance and intolerance in everyday life: topics in gender history, history of children and the elderly; history of "marginaux" (disabled, beggars, slaves, etc.);
- perception of the "Other" and tolerance/intolerance on the Triplex Confinium, exclusions/inclusions; "repressive tolerance," experiences of co-habitation, etc.;  
- towards a new comparative religious history

The aim of the conference is to discuss impact of globalization on the contemporary societies and economies, especially focusing on advantages and disadvantages of a changing economic environment.
Any paper corresponding to this broadly conceived theme of the conference would be welcome. Papers should be prepared as a Full-Length Research Paper, Research-in-Progress Paper, Discussion Paper, Practical (Case study) Paper or Panel. All papers will be reviewed by two or more reviewers in a process commonly known as double-blind. Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings.
