Nations in Transit
2003
Nations in Transit, published annually by Freedom House, is the only
comprehensive, comparative, multidimensional study focusing on 27 former
Communist states. All the country reports are available.
We would like to inform you that the Mobility Portal has been launched. It is now
available on-line at the following web address
http://europa.eu.int/eracareers .
The pan-European Researcher's Mobility Portal will provide general information
about research grants at EU, international, national or regional level as well
as available opportunities and job offers published by the different actors of
the European research community (Universities, Industry, Foundations, etc). The
portal will also provide information about administrative and legal issues
(conditions of entry, social security and tax schemes etc) as well as about
cultural/intercultural and family related aspects.
Please find enclosed a leaflet for the promotion of the Mobility Portal.
May we kindly ask you to distribute the information on the launching of the
Mobility Portal in your country as widely as possible.

Southeast European Minorities
Network
Southeast European Minorities Network (see-minorities) aims at the improvement
of communication between different scholarly projects, persons and institutions,
dealing with problems and questions connected to the field of minorities in
Southeast Europe. It will provide information about scholars and institutions
active in the field and will hopefully bring people from Southeast Europe as
well as from other places of the world together to plan new projects, ask new
questions and start new research. We are planning to establish a network of
scholars from regions all over Europe. This network is supposed to enhance
research abilities and knowledge about minorities in Southeast Europe as a
collective. We are thus trying to make the network ³work as a net² as a means
of communication and as a platform for mutual projects; projects that can be
really conducted together. See-minorities suppose to enhance communication,
knowledge transfer and academic team work into a European dimension.
This kind of networking should become a part of your research, your
communication with other scholars, your search for information and your platform
of exchange of thoughts.
Please have a look at
http://www.see-minorities.org/index.htm. All information about
organizational structure (go to about) and content of the network as well as
news can be found there.
You can find our members (go to members) with contact addresses and information
about their field of research. Also most of them proposed a project (go to
projects) that should to be the textual resource of mutual projects the network
wants to conduct together.
You can find information about our activities and also contribute to the network
by taking part in our discussion (forum discussions), by enriching our
research bibliography (forum bibliography) and by reviewing books concerning
any topic connected with minorities in Southeast Europe (forum reviews). We
will also announce all relevant dates of conferences, call for papers etc.
(forum dates). You can find our publications and order them directly via
internet. We hope, that you find our informationıs and aims interesting and
would like to ask you to participate in this kind of academic communication.
If you like to become a member, please fill out our application/registration
form
http://www.see-minorities.org/assets/forms/ApplicationForm.doc (you can find
that also in the web under
http://www.see-minorities.org/members) and send it to us.
We are looking forward to hear from you!
Kind regards

PRESS RELEASE LAUNCH
OF NEW DATABASE OF NGOs AND EXPERTS WORKING TOWARDS RECONCILIATION IN SE
EUROPE http://www.see-database.org
The Stability Pact for South-Eastern Europe and the Center for Democracy and
Reconciliation in South East Europe (CDRSEE) are pleased to announce the launch
of their database for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and experts, which
work towards reconciliation in Southeast Europe. The database has already more
than 300 entries and it is going to be constantly updated and expanded.
Included in the database are NGOs that work in the areas of economics,
democratisation, human rights, politics, education, arts & culture, media,
youth, gender equality and inter-religious dialogue, and aim to promote
reconciliation and cross-border understanding through these thematic areas. The
database is also focused on the area of the Western Balkans (Albania,
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, FYR of Macedonia, Serbia & Montenegro, including
Kosovo), an area which has lately been the focus on the international community.
The database is searchable in many categories and has the capability of a mass
mailing option, configured by different criteria, with the potential to serve as
a disseminator of news and ideas to all relevant actors. Interested NGOs can
submit or update their information online and also advertise any internship or
employment positions they have available. Last but not least, in the links
section, other relevant databases are listed.
The database can be an effective tool in support of NGOs and donors as a
starting page for searching for project partners, or funding a programme. It can
help to avoid duplications and identify possible gaps in the work of the civil
society in the region. It will also provide a good reference and the increased
ability for sound strategic planning for reconciliation and post-conflict
development in SE Europe.
The database is part of the "Reconciling for the Future" project which is a long
term initiative to facilitate creative dialogue, identify a common set of
values, and enhance the synergies between local NGOs which contribute to the
reconciliation process in the Western Balkans. This programme is under the aegis
of the Hellenic Presidency of the European Union, co-organised with the
Stability Pact for South East Europe, and is supported by the Foreign Ministries
of Greece, Norway, Canada and Sweden. http://www.see-database.org
The "Study in Europe"
web portal has been created by the Academic Cooperation Association (ACA), an
independent European organisation dedicated to the management, analysis and
improvement of education and training co-operation within Europe and between
Europe and other parts of the world. ACA member organisations are major European
national organisations responsible for the promotion of international
cooperation in education.
This web portal gives access to the national websites of European countries,
which provide information on higher education in these countries: higher
education institutions and study programmes, language of tuition, admission
procedures, degrees awarded, grant opportunities, campus life, country
information and other practical details that might interest you while planning
your studies in Europe. Most of these websites have links to those of individual
institutions of higher education, where even more detailed information can be
found. Likewise the portal contains an overview of the European Union education
and research programmes with non-European countries or so called "third
countries" (the countries other then the 15 Member States of the European Union:
Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland,
Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Sweden;
EFTA countries: Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway; and countries candidates to
the EU membership: Bulgaria, Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta,
Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Turkey), provides
guidelines for application and gives access to the programmes' websites for
further information. Finally, the portal contains links to other internet
information sources on education opportunities in Europe.
