Youngstown State University invites applicatons for tenure track appointment in history. The successful candidate will teach primarily advanced courses in modern Russian and Eastern European History, and World Civilization Surveys. Special consideration will be given to those with a subfield in Modern China. Ph.D. (awarded by August 2004) in an appropriate field. Teaching experience strongly preferred. Candidate must demonstrate an active scholarly agenda.

Youngstown State University is a state-assisted, urban institution of higher education which primarily, but not exclusively, serves the students of northeastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. The University has an enrollment of approximately 12,500 (head-count) in a wide variety of programs ranging from 2-year associate degrees to the Doctor of Education degree. SUMMARY:
The Department of Gender Studies at Central European University invites applications for a full-time Professor.

The initial appointment is for 4-5 years and is renewable. Salary and benefits are dependent upon qualifications and experience. The compensation package is subject to Hungarian taxation regulations. CEU offers assistance to its employees who are not citizens or permanent residents of Hungary to obtain a work permit which is required by the Hungarian labor authorities.

REQUIREMENTS:
We are looking for a dynamic scholar with a strong commitment to research and graduate teaching in Women's and Gender Studies and in one of the disciplines within the Social Sciences and Humanities.

Applications are particularly welcome from candidates with an interest and experience in creative interdisciplinarity, in exploring the interrelation between transnational and local/national/regional change, and in the dynamics of creating and contesting global hierarchies.

Along with teaching in the area of specialization, the successful candidate should have experience and/or interest in academic administration and a vision of academic development.

Senior Position in Political Science

The Department of Political Science and the Department of International Relations and European Studies at the Central European University invite applications for a full-time senior position.

CEUs primary mission is to promote academic excellence, state of the art research and civic commitment, so as to contribute to the development of open societies in Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, and other emerging democracies. CEU offers both masters and doctoral programs, and it enrolls about 800 students from almost 50 countries, including all former communist countries of the region. The teaching staff consists of around 100 faculty members from more than 30 countries. The language of instruction is English.

CEU promotes a comparative, interdisciplinary scholarly approach which integrates the region (Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union) into a wider, global perspective. CEU faculty members are encouraged engage in high-level research and the university supports such research through appropriate institutional mechanisms. Without impeding the research agendas of individual faculty members, paying systematic attention to the policy implications of the research conducted at CEU is also encouraged.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and should have a proven record of excellence in scholarship and teaching in one or more of the following areas: comparative politics, public policy, and research methodology. A specialization in Russian and East European politics or Central Asia will be an advantage.
